Kwilt Journal privacy
Updated October 9, 2026
Kwilt Labs LLC provides Kwilt Journal. This page explains how Journal handles your information. It supplements the Kwilt Privacy Policy; the Journal-specific details here apply to Journal. Contact info@kwilt.app with privacy or deletion requests.
Your journal on your device
Written entries, selected photos, places, and local recordings are stored on your device. Signing in does not back up your written journal. Apple device backups may include app data according to your device settings.
Journal requests microphone, photo-library, location, or notification access when the relevant feature needs it. You control these permissions in Settings. Local speech transcription and supported Apple intelligence features run on your device. Apple Maps handles map and place requests under Apple’s privacy policy.
Optional AI conversations
When you start a conversation after the in-app disclosure, your microphone audio and bounded text from the current entry are sent to ElevenLabs and its AI service providers to produce responses. Other journal entries and your photos are not included in the conversation request. The app saves the conversation’s text on your device as it arrives.
For paid conversations, we configure ElevenLabs not to retain a voice recording and to delete conversation history, including transcript and personal information, after one day. Temporary history lets us reconcile the provider’s reported duration with your conversation allowance. This is not a zero-retention service. Provider security, legal, and backup retention may differ under their policies.
Optional narration and your AI voice
If you choose an AI narrator, the entry text being read is sent to ElevenLabs to generate speech. Apple device narration is a separate local option. Setting up a personal AI voice additionally sends the voice sample you select to ElevenLabs after your consent. We keep an account-linked voice identifier and setup state. You can remove your AI voice in Settings; disabling playback alone does not delete that voice.
As of October 2, 2026, we have opted our ElevenLabs workspace out of using newly submitted workspace data to train its general models. This does not disable processing needed to provide your requested voice, narration, or conversation, and it does not remove the operational retention described above.
AI processing is subject to ElevenLabs’ Privacy Policy and its applicable service-provider terms. Do not send someone else’s voice without permission. AI output may be inaccurate; review it before relying on it.
Accounts and purchases
Apple or Google sign-in provides your account identifier and the profile information you authorize, such as your name, email address, and profile image. Supabase hosts authentication and account data. Your Kwilt account is shared with the core Kwilt app.
Apple handles payment details. We process signed purchase records, product identifiers, billing periods, account identifiers, and conversation usage to provide access, restore purchases, prevent duplicate grants, and handle cancellations or refunds. A verification service hosted on Vercel checks Apple’s signed purchase records. It does not receive your journal text or microphone audio.
Service providers process network and diagnostic information, such as IP addresses, request times, error codes, and session identifiers, to operate and protect these services. We do not sell personal information or use Journal data for cross-app advertising tracking.
Cloud audio, when available
Cloud audio is not included in the launch conversation plans. If cloud-audio features are available to your account and you explicitly enable them, recordings and entry identifiers may be stored in private account-controlled cloud storage. Those controls let you delete cloud recordings. They do not back up your written entries or photos.
Phone stories and text reminders
If you participate in phone stories, we store your linked phone number, journal destination, time zone, participation permissions and consent records. With your consent, phone calls are recorded and transcribed through Twilio and ElevenLabs, and the resulting stories and recordings are stored in private cloud storage for the journal. Journal sharing permissions determine who can access them.
Optional Kwilt Journal text invitations follow the days and times you select, with additional replies and requested snoozes. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop text invitations and scheduled calls, or HELP for help. Contact support@kwilt.app or see text message terms.
We do not sell or share mobile phone numbers or SMS opt-in data and consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We share only the information needed with service providers, such as Twilio, to deliver and operate the messaging program. The above excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Keeping and deleting information
Local entries remain until you delete them or remove the app’s local data. Deleted entries are recoverable in the app’s recycle bin for 30 days unless you permanently delete them sooner. Exports you save or share are under your control.
Use Settings > Account > Delete Kwilt account to request deletion of your shared account and associated cloud data. This also affects the core Kwilt app. Local Journal entries remain on your device. Account deletion does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage subscriptions in your Apple account settings. We may retain records needed for security, payment reconciliation, legal obligations, or resolving disputes, and backups may expire on a separate schedule.
We use providers that may process information in the United States and other countries. Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of account data. Eligibility and parental-consent requirements are described in our Terms of Service.
